does the brompton still fold with that? Or do you have to take off the seat?
-
• #4579
Still folds perfectly! I was expecting to need to take the seat off but alas, it’s as it wasn’t there!

Very excited! I last owned one in about 2015, there's not a huge difference but some neat design changes I thought.

Thanks! Looks indeed like what I've seen around.
We're studying what will be our nursery routine soon, not fully worked out yet. Will be in touch if Brompton turns out to be my preferred option for morning drop off... -

How easy/cost-effective is it to change out M handlebars for flatter ones? Is it only the height that's different between M/S or is the reach different too?
There seem to be a lot more cheap second hand M models for sale than S.

The basics are this;
M stem is shorter with less reach than an S, so fitting a flat bar to an m type is pretty low, lower than an s type.
You can go lower, the easiest option is the Joseph kuosac mid rise bar, cheap, no need to cut cables because the bars are wider, so you space the levers/shifters out and the cables are fine.
Otherwise, new stem (you can only have these fitted by a dealer, not just buy one u less used) and bars and cables... £130 stem, £30 bars, £10 a cable kit
M types were made before s types, they are generally more popular, people who can’t decide, or who are guided to be “normal” or “average” buy m types, they are in the middle, relaxed but not a h type... people also think m types have better resale’s, which isn’t true because there are more m types around so the supply demand ratio means s types are more sellable if anything

I see a dude on my commute sometimes with a real low flat bar Brompton. Must have swapped out the bars on an M type. He’s bloody quick too

Just got posted in the selling group I admin...

Thanks again, that's a good price, but I can't collect there and we're still not sure how we'll handle things, I'll end up with two seats (already have the Yepp)
[edit... That was a weird typo]

Anyone know of a bike shop in London they can/is willing to do a same-day service on a Brompton? It’s currently my only wsy to commute so would like it out of action for as little time as possible. Work east (Liverpool St) so if nearby then all the better!
Having recently relocated I’m not sure where’s the go-to places apart from Evans, which seem touch and go.

I thought so too :-)

Avoid Evans! Go to London junction in Covent Garden

Thanks for the tip.
Based on my calculations from the diagrams available on the internet, the M stem is ~260mm and the S stem is ~320mm. So if I run flat bars, it'll be 60mm lower than a stock S setup, or I can run the 100mm mid-rise bars and have it 40mm higher. Does that sound about right? Also, does running M stem + mid rise bars affect the fold?
Is it possible to just trim the cables or do bromptons use some kind of proprietary cable?

I'd probably second this advice...
Or go to an indi - Like Chris Compton in Catford. -

These do it https://www.bikefix.co.uk/brompton-servicing

I agree. I haven’t been impressed by ones I’ve visited but know they do carry Bromptons.
Thanks for the heads up re Brompton Junction, completely forgot they had their own stores!
-
• #4598
That looks good! Now need to see how it fits with getting further east...

Last time I went there I got a Boris bike to work after dropping my bike off.

Most of them are just authorised or recommended stores not premier, the staff training is poor, they just have the bwc bikes and special editions because of the size of the company... would not let an Evans touch my bike if I was paid.
Cable tied?
