Why, oh why?
Build a custom frame, barely any TT clearance (very tight if you come off) then instead of adjusting the HT and dropping the TT (custom innit, though lugs make that very hard, so maybe fillet braze instead) put on a 20 cm stem.
May as well get an old MTB with a quill then :)
Cos the frame is actually super nice, and 26" makes a lot of sense for smaller frames.

Is it custom? Thought the Atlantis was one of Riv's OTP frames. And if you're buying a Riv, well, a foot of quill stem is part of that characteristic look...
-

Oh it is not a custom and part of the look?
Bit like Thorns then, 20 cm of ahead steerer showing is mandatory ;)

Yeah, very much like a Thorn; Grant Petersen of Rivendell likes quill stems and a very upright position. Lovely frames, mind.

Repost?
Is it me or the rear tubes are not bent the same way or really symmetrical? -

the rear tubes are not bent the same way
Why should they be the same when they are doing different jobs?

Despite it being utterly hideous I guess it rides well, I'd try it on some gravel and light trails.

Its like someone was asked to draw a bike blindfolded

I think more thought has gone into the chainstays than is perhaps obvious. I think it's supposed to match the lines of the fork, which (AFAIR) he always intended to use for the build, which gives it a weird sort of symmetry. And it's clever that the chain doesn't need to be broken to be removed, and dropping the wheel out is going to be really easy, and it gives clearance for fat tyres, and it can take a belt-drive (which pairs nicely with the Pinion-capable BB thing), etc.
PS you guys should see the bars if you haven't already
