DQ fair? Rule was clear, but no consequence decided until offence occured. Would b.o.p. runners be treated same? Would USA leader be treated same?

Fair imo. If it's a rule it's a rule, same thing happened in the Hong Kong 100K but he ended up winning and then getting DQd (not Thevenard). From reading comments on iRunFar and stuff it sounds like the race organisers had been in contact with his crew and him before they DQ'd him so not just a snap decision. Be interested to hear his opinion though, especially as he had a massive lead.
I think a US leader would be treated the same, like Brian Morrison being disqualified at 2006 (?) Western when he was carried over the line after his legs gave out despite having an enormous lead.

Did you go along? I did. Great fun. A very steep learning curve.

I'd agree with all of that. There are other races / experiences out there for people who want to use a GPS track to map their way round a course.
I saw one of these GPS watches in action the other weekend, it was pretty crazy the amount of information it was giving.

How do you feel about that?
I have no clue about such things and am kinda shocked - thought gps would be common -

^ & ^^ I agree too. Think it'll be exploitable though so get messy. Could split the FRA if not resolved sensitively & sensibly.
Fwiw: Prospect of necessary map & compass nav is a big part of the fun of Fell Races for me, although I usually have folks to blindly follow!

Anyone got a speed drill I can fit into my lunchtime runs? Currently doing 2 hill sessions in Hampstead Heath and then longer/slowed run at weekends.
Thanks!

You could just add a few sets of strides at the end. Get the neuromuscular benefit without going too deep. Something like 3 or 4 x 100m, steady acceleration/deceleration, hitting not-quite-max speed for the middle 2om.

You could go in the track after a hill session if you are a glutton for punishment. It is pretty cheap, and you can kill yourself with some post hill laps.
I used to do 800s and 1600s after hill reps there back in the day (3 years ago)

Fuck this. I thought if I headed into the woods late afternoon, a bit of shade might take the edge off and I could attempt some sort of hilly fartlek. Bollocks to that. 6 miles with a couple of hard hills thrown in. Made it to the water tap, guzzled, turned round. Ugh!

I went to the pub instead of tonight's run. Haven't done my planned (first) 10k commute this week either. £2 cask ales though

This seems like as good a place to ask as any! I've noticed that I seem to run/walk weird, with my heels turning inwards and treading down the side of my shoes a bit. This is particularly prominent in the trainers I wear for work. Is there an easy/cheap way to combat this? Maybe some sort of insole?

Gait anslysis first. Proper physio if possible. Inserts etc should be lastish resort imo.

Wearing down along the inside or outside heel ?

Good luck in the heat today, runners!
I actually managed my session yesterday but slower than hoped for.
Results are in for the Barnes common orienteering - substantial room for improvement here.

Just getting my last few bits together now then on the train up there. gonna wander over this eve to grab my pack and will be opting for the 6am start I think.
last year it was blazing sun with weird thunderstorms that blew in from nowhere every hour or so so was taking my rain jacket on off the whole time, so probably not much change there this year. will probably be hot enough I'll just let myself get wet this time though I'll have my waterproof jacket just in case it gets really bad.
only annoying thing is if it rains there's a bit after the black swan lake area that was torturous when it had a thin layer of wet mud on it as it's a long narrow trail lined with nettles and it was like trying to run along a slip and slide covered in washing up liquid, was actually really happy it'd be bone dry along there this year, it was like something off a japanese game show. hopefully it doesnt get too wet.
turns out there will be route stickers again now but you shouldn't rely on them, they're handy for when you get tired and don't want to run staring at your watch the whole time though.
will pm you my no just in case you're about but otherwise catch you at the race at some point (even if you start at 8am you'll catch me by halfway probably hah).
Just seen AY's dl5km time on a fb headline... chapeau!
