  • Considered the heightened security in major cities in Fr, I am a little annoyed that actual violent individuals aren’t being treated with the same level of force.

    Tl:dr shoulda used guns

  • Inner Ring Twitter suggests there were banners saying something about local farmers in distress.

However idiotic the gendarmes were, blocking the road is a potentially very dangerous way to protest as well.

  • Thanks, Froome.

  • Looks like it's going to be a good day's macing.

  • Looks like they are going full gas.

  • Hur hur

  • I’m worried, it’s raining...

  • BBQ weather here

Just what I was thinking. How dim do French farmers have to be to think lobbing straw bales in front of a peloton doing 50kph+ is a good idea?

  • Interesting thing INRNG mentioned: of Thomas' lead half of it is down to his rivals losing time through crashes or mechanicals, and a quarter is from him nabbing bonus seconds. Very clever racing from him, if he can stay on his bike in the third week.

  • This stage is horrible. The riders are all trying to rip each other apart!

  • well if you were a struggling farmer that sees more and more budget cuts, you'd do whatever it takes to raise a voice. its called protest

  • Wish I could be watching it. Everyone wants to get into the break and win the stage I am guessing, or are they trying to turn the screw on Sky?

  • 50km to the Aspet...

No sign of a break being allowed to go. Bernal being in the earlier break is an interesting one-given license to go for a stage or cement the white jersey?

  • just add more antifreeze to the wine

No, I wouldn't. Doing something which endangers the physical well-being of other people just to try and make a point is not something I would ever do. Protest is one thing, putting other people at risk of injury is quite another.

  • I think they were blocking the road rather than trying to throw bales in the path of riders.
When they got there, it was obvious that there had been hay on the road that had been cleared.

  • Fucking French

  • They just hate our brave lads

  • The boys

  • No stiff upper lip

  • . WHERE'S THE BLITZ SPIRIT!?

  • The peloton is pissing now so I guess that's the escape finally up the road...

  • I seriously doubt it was a peaceful non-violent placards-only protest.

Remember the farmers whacking sportive riders with sticks here a few months back? “No no m’lud, we were pointing those sticks at the ground!”
