There is a middle ground. You need to give enough hints/tutorials to get you looking for the right things and then leave a player to figure it out for themselves as the game progresses.
Suppose it depends on how directed the game is.
If you’re supposed to go off and explore, then you should, through the course of exploring figure out what stuff is and does. If it’s more directed you need to show people what it is and where so they can keep moving forward.
I like to be directed to a certain extent but when I’m two thirds of the way through a game, getting helpful hints isn’t something I enjoy..

Beautiful round just then - landed and got 7 kills in the first fight. Team didn't get any which I thought was a bit suspect but OK. Moved to next location and spotted two more squads hiding there facing each other off. I told team that's where they were and we should push. They scattered in different directions and left me to solo. I got destroyed.

You don't need any of that crap, fight the final boss with starting gear.

So that’s The Simpsons Game on NDS sorted. 97% at 4hr 26min will do, sod getting 100% with the buggy controls.

Trying to pay less than £3 per boxed game is difficult, CEX etc want real money for the good titles...but the charity shops seem to get a load in frequently. Will keep an eye out for advance wars and stuff.

Fun I guess but quick and a bit grindy for 100% so not going to bother. Always game for a stone age game though. Have this memory of borrowing a game from someone at school on a CD. Would have been around 1999? I guess it was kind of an rpg of sorts. First person. Stone age setting, run around for ages, gather stuff, get attacked by something. I remember it struggling to run on my computer at the time so I uninstalled but regretted not copying the disc as I gave it back the next day. If anyone has a weird recollection of what the game could be I'd be curious/grateful.

I tried fornite the other night, without any prep. Landed, tried to build stuff, failed, found a sweet looking gun, and died. Looked like it could be fun though
