Giant frame and 29er or normal and 26?

Hi, hoping for a little advice:

I’ve got a Surly 1x1 running a Tuggnut and a QR axle, but anytime I hit anything technical the rear wheel pulls back in the dropout and makes the chain super tight. Do I just need to tighten up the QR to stop it slipping backwards or am I missing a trick?

Shimano/other good enclosed cam qr or Allen key/open can skewer?

I always though skewers were much of a muchness! Will a ‘decent’ one help do you think?

Almost definitely.

An enclosed cam skewer (pref Shimano one) will in my experience, hold better than allen key skewer, Hope etc open cam skewer or even allen bolts threaded direct into the axle.

I've been toying with the idea of converting my neglected Kona Unit back to SS and throwing the ridiculously biggest slick tyres I can find on it. Then use it as my daily bike.

Is there any problem with running 32/13?
Any suggestions for tyres? Not too pricey please.

65 GI ish? Might be a bit keen for my tastes, but I'm getting older, slower and lazier...
Schwalbe Big Apples seem pretty popular amongst the big and slick brigade.

For pootling around town. I calculated the GI on my current bike to be 65ish too, so that'd fit fine

Also, I might even have some 50mm Big Apples in the cellar somewhere. I can try these out and go even bouncier in the future.

suggestions for a rear cog that wont chew up freehub bodys? Using a hope body atb that's made of cheese.

I think the surly one is extra thick around the splines to prevent this, I'm pretty sure Halo do one too
