I put a Conti Grand Prix 4 Season on my new rear wheel, murder to get on. It was a 2 man job in the end using brute force and 2 fork(cutlery) ends. Thumbs were throbbing for a day

Schwalbe Marathon Plus. 90 mins last night, 3 inches of the tyre remained un-tucked.
I'ld even left the tyre in a warm room all day before hand.
(maybe i need to freeze the wheel?)I gave up and put the the old Continental Gator Skin on in less than 3 minutes whilst distracted. I will use talc, and all the other things suggested on here and if I find the fork handles remotely successful will report back in a few days.

Marathon Plus are tough buggers but can be done by hand. I run one on the Condor.

It's true. And he does it for free. He came round mine to fit my Randonneur for me. He was bloody quick. Think he said he'd beaten his personal best too.

...seriously, get some old kitchen forks. fork handles are the best, better than spoons. don't know why
Yep start at the valve when removing finish at the valve when fitting.
I know the forum has been on tenterhooks all week, but got the tyre (Schwalbe Marathon Plus) on in less than 15 mins. The above tips are the most useful, thank you el squire, jonny, & theBrick

My tips:
1_If it is a difficult tyre to place and you have been going for >5 mins, remove it and **stretch **against your foot by pulling your hands up all the way around the tyre (like using a track pump)
2_I know Fred said don't use levers but I found the **levers **very helpful in getting one side of the tyre "in the valley"
3_Use a **table **- have the wheel forming the bottom of a right angled triangle - your body is the back - and your arms outstretched complete the triangle (the hypotenuse) - so the tyre is 90degrees to your body. This gives you leverage as you work around the tyre.
4_The last 4 or 5 inches are the hardest and this is where the leverage of the **fork **or 2 forks just eases the tyres in. you will place the fork handle between the wheel and the tyre with the teeth facing you, then push the handle away from you (the teeth move towards the tyre).Don't use your finest silver, my butler was most unimpressed with the bent fork.
If anyone is raging I'll undercut hippy by a whole £1 per visit but I don't think I could ever beat the legend that is edscoble.

Aaaaaaargh!
New set of Ambrosio P20s for my touring / commuter from Hub Velo last month. The Marathons I had on my old bike were never seated properly on the new rims and I had vibration when riding. Took em off, faffed, hauled em back on - still misaligned. So assuming the tyres are stuffed I’m now fitting Conti 4 Seasons...
I’m about to wang the whole lot in the sea! Damn nearly broke my knuckles getting them on and they still have about 8” of the circumference not seating properly. The whole tyre is lower in the rim at that point. I thought maybe it was sticking to the cheap rim tape so I’ve changed that and even chalked the bead. Same result.
Is it me or the wheels? Obviously the mechanic who fitted my tyres to the new rims in the first place had the same problem.

Tried pumping them up to about 150 PSI and seeing if they seat themselves?
Wear ear plugs.

Same idea from Crank Brothers - Only £5 - retracts and is very light so you can throw it in your back/pocket. I got mine from Cycle Surgery (Holborn)
