imo don't spend £4700 on a bike, that's silly money and well into diminishing returns.

As Howard might point out, if you're fast enough to put the Spark to good effect in XC racing, then you're probably supplied with it from your sponsor :-)
Plus 1 for having 2 Yetis

Not that a Spark isn't a capable bike, of course...

My tuppence worth on the scott....
I rode a fully tricked out, Electronic XTR version'd thing a while back.....it felt dead.

Yup, this guy is the main driving force! Wow. So light, much fun.
You're right though @platypus the spec is mediocre. And that's what i'm finding with a lot of bikes. The Epic Comp Carbon being a fine example, Reba on a £3500 bike??
I simply want a decent pedalling bike that can be fun. I got scared off long travel stuff with a SC Tall Boy LTC which I had and it was too much bike.
And what is with these bloody dinner plate cassettes on everything? I currently run 34 up front 36 on the rear and there is nothing I can't tackle. So any bike I do get will need to have the capacity to run a 36 so i can show how manly I am...
Pic of current Yeti Big Top included so i feel like i'm at least contributing to this thread :)

well, it's right there in your post. what's wrong with that bike? will pedal well and be fun.
if you want more fun, add a dropper, shorten the stem a bit, and put on some tyres with a bit more bite

Loads of options here - from silly forked hardtails to 27.5 FS trail-lite to short travel 29er XC / Trail crossovers. I wouldn't get a pure 100mm FS XC bike for this though.

I want a steel bike and I can't imagine one could make them any lighter though, being 853 main tubes.
The fact that the rear dropouts can be any many standard from QR to Boost is likeable and the fact that you can run 29"x2.4" or 27.5"x3" is good too.@PhilDAS if i get one you can buy my carbon rigid forks too and have a lighter version of the one you're selling.

That’s exactly what I want. I have the picture of your bike saved on my phone as inspiration haha. Saves me a job of respraying too, damn the stock paint is ugly. Yours a Large?

Unless you plan to race XC ( competitively ), I can see no downsides to this.

• #11697
this is almost exactly how I have my Solaris set up. even pretty much the same colour! recommended.

• #11698
These look nice , not sure how you would get one though.

Here you go, in various guises.
@BareNecessities The only thing I do competitively is crash
@platypus the HT is noice and tall too for luggage.
I wonder if I can run it with 100mm forks without fucking up the geo.

That would work out more expensive
that Scott is ugly and not great spec imo
I'd sell the CAAD and end up with one Yeti
