Voile straps (Stretchy rubber ski straps) seem very popular state-side for attaching things. Not sure if they be got in the UK easily/cheaply

Also wondering about this, especially since voike straps might not arrive in time. Found some shock cord (big name for elastic rope) and cord locks on Amazon. Get some cut down to appropriate sizes. Only worry is the cord locks are not strong enough but you can fiesably knot it.
Word of warning, 5mm is too thick, but if you need 5mm I might have some spare...

Straps and bungees, looks like quite a few people have them if it becomes necessary to attach things to the outside of the bike. Is there a go to brand?
