For that price you'll be in the 8J snap on case back territory so yeah it's totally doable.
I'm hunting down a 9F, titanium, screw down back w/ lum, it will be over the 1k mark, just waiting for one to appear on the market again.

Buuttttt... Some lunatic is selling an SBGR025 for £800 more than your budget. Not sure how they are justifying that mega bargain but this is probably as close as you'll get right now.

There's some SBGX261's listed on Chrono24 for 1300, maybe you'll get lucky on a forum. Vintage Grand Seiko & King Seiko can be had for cheaper than that
