by that I mean a brompton is a pretty niche kind of bike which you buy to fulfil a specific role, i doubt I would have ever bought mine given the cost if i was paying for it upfront, but the hefty discount you get and the fact you pay about £50 a month before you get your salary for just a year made it a worthwhile purchase. plus they hold their value really well. I lost about £200 selling mine after owning it for about 4 years and that was giving someone mates rates for it.
