Time cut is based on average speed of stage. Not a set percentage of winners time.

Indeed, but it's a travesty. With these short stages they need to look at the rules and sort it, or sprinters will stop coming.
-
• #1204
The last person was 29:25 down so that must have been about the limit.
-
• #1205
No according to Twitter it is Sky's fault they have been eliminated

Linky?

The problem with the internet is it gives any old village idiot a platform, and they think they've earned it.
-
• #1208
Yeah, some guy ranting on Twitter about how sprinters won’t bother coming to the tour!
-
• #1209
village idiot.
Yeah right.
(The village idiot was long considered an acceptable social role, a unique individual who was dependent yet contributed to the social fabric of his community. As early as Byzantine times, the "village idiot" was treated as an acceptable form of disabled individual compatible with then-prevailing normative conceptions of social order. The concept of a "village savant" or "village genius" is closely related, often tied to the concept of pre-industrial anti-intellectualism, as both figures are subjects of both pity and derision. The social roles of the two are combined and applied, especially in the sociopolitical context, in the European medieval/Renaissance court jester.)

It's true though no? The tour is going to move more and more towards short stages and people will miss the cut. So why train hard to come and run the risk. Two huge name sprinters out today, is nothing short of terrible for the race. Yes neither had won a stage - or been near - but both have animated the race in previous years and are a loss.

Yeah I agree, was just trying to be funny!
Although only 3 riders (Zabel was 4secs out and allowed in) doesn’t suggest they got it that wrong.
-
• #1212
Or that the other riders buried themselves to make the cut. Not going to be easy getting another contract if you miss a time cut at the tour (without good reason).

Complaining on here about commentators is the equivalent of being an annoying commentator. And, yes, I've done it myself but stopped because it's boring. For every pro there's an anti. David Millar talked about 'gravil' yesterday and was wearing a baseball cap in the booth today. You don't hear me shouting Twat! at the screen, do you?

Why is everyone who writes for cyclingtips such almighty bellends?

It's the GERAINT THOMAS CONTRACT YEAR KLAXON WARNING!
-

Neal Rodgers was basically saying Sky dominating cycling under the current rules bad so we should change the rules to stop it. I linked him to INRNG's piece on team standings which show Quickstep head and shoulders above Sky and he got pissy. I told he should reading a good cycling website for a change.

Dynamite.
I thought Thomas was in contract for a few more years.
Maybe he’ll move teams, needs to if he wants to lead.
-
• #1221
If - big if - Thomas can pull off a tour victory he won't be short of job offers.
Personally if he does win the tour I'd like to see him go back to racing classics.
-
• #1222
But until Thomas cracks surely Sky are in la-la land. This is shades of 2012, and Lemond and Hinault, Roche and Visentini even Contador and Armstrong. What if it comes to Thomas being ordered to lose time so Froome can win? That is an ugly thought, let's hope the road is allowed to decide.

Thomas?
Punchy.
Who'll sign him though?
UAE?
Bora?
Katusha?
There was an additional two minutes for some reason, so time cut was 29 mins and change.
