If I'm switching between 25 & 33mm tires, what is an ideal rim internal rim width - 18mm?
-
• #5633
19-21

I've got Soma Cazederos which I really like -- good for gravel/off-road stuff and fast rolling on flat/tarmac in between. But they don't do tubeless -- what are my options, in a gumwall?
WTB resolutes?
Gravel king not knobbly enough I think.

GK mud?

is the GK tan wall somehow browner than the wtb or is it just my imagination? i love the proper gumwall of the somas. but ... ergh ... tubeless future nonsense.

GKs are brown wall yeah

Have you thought about going with 28 and 33? Is this on your Albanach?
-
• #5639
I could do 28 and 33 yeah. Its basically for fast summer rides and winter cross duties, so 28s would be okay. Would that change ideal widths for the rim?

Think it could be better and now a days with the wide carbon rims 28 are better in terms of rolling resistance and aero (supposedly) so faster road riding.
I think HUNT for example say that their wheels are most aero with 28mm Pro One.
EDIT
I'd be looking for 19-20mm Internal, however looks like lightbicycle does 18mm on their 700c rims. -

Kinlin for example

Alloy yes, but not sure about their carbon ones.
I know they did that aero work in Germany looking at this a few months ago. I believe the Canyon Eisberg bikes have 28mm tubeless.

they are very similar to lightbicycle rims

• #5644
these guys are 21mm - too wide?

I've also got the Soma Cazederos, and they're great. I thought you could go tubeless (unofficially) with them? One of the gravelbikey review sites goes on about it. The walls seem reasonably sturdy.

What's a good 26 x 2.something tyre for commuting / occasional pootling through the more user friendly tracks of Epping Forest? Currently thinking Big Apples but not sure.

Halo Twinrail

Continental have a tyre that has a slick central section, and knoblies on the sides. Probably more of a touring tyre.
(They've updated their range since I last looked but Contact Travel seems to be what I was thinking of)
I also did a hell of a lot of miles on gp4kIIs without punctures. They roll well and are pretty light
