I'm presuming that at a point Thomas will be told to sacrifce himself riding for Froome so that he can get a stage win/grab some time and thus the 59 seconds will disapper 'naturally'. Although you are right in that they will keep them both in contention for as long as possible; I just think that if it comes to having to choose (and times are similar) Froome will get it on the chance that he can have a crack at the Vuelta and go for the triple.

Both Knaven and Froome seem to think the leadership is beyond debate, Thomas doesn't seem to think so. Sky are best to stay cagey, the Giro/Tour double in recent years has been seen to be undoable, although you can perhaps say that is because if you win the Giro, you then have to beat Froome in the Tour.
But then Froome did the Tour/Vuelta double, and then doubled down on that with the Giro as well. Winning four GTs in a row? If anyone can he can but I think a lot of his competition will be looking for fatigue and that jour sans. And they will be looking to pounce, but if they do they still have Thomas to negotiate. However I do not think either Thomas or Sky's DSes will sacrifice his chances for Froome.
How will Froome claw back the 59 seconds he has lost to Thomas, especially if the latter takes yellow today as expected?
I think Sky will try and ensure both stay in contention for as long as possible, as it increases their chances of winning the Tour.
