  • Depends if you want the hassle of having to be around to let them in to fit it.

‘ok. But I’d like a discount on my price plan’

It doesn’t tie you in, but the stupid things might not work if you change supplier

    Smart eh?

  • Smart eh?

More like dumb as fuck. I didn't realise they were provider specific. If I changed supplier, I presume the new one be able to come and replace with their own variant?

  • The current standard is SMETS1 which currently have issues with switching (i.e. it will generally become dumb if you move to another supplier) although that may change in the future.

New version is SMETS2 which is meant to be rolled out in the next few years and should work with all providers.

Personally I'd probably wait but if you're planning to be with your supplier a while then it probably doesn't matter either way.

  • With the ease of use of things like uswitch, there's no reason to stay with a supplier out of laziness now is there? Money talks. In which case I'd make sure it was one of the new units that allowed me to jump ship easily.

I'd also make sure my current supplier stopped spamming me.

  • Inertia is strong with some people

  • I switch every year usually so will enquire how smart their meters are and hold fire if its the dumber one.

  • Motivation over masturbation.

  • You can still manually read smart meters although you might have to call up to submit a meter reading as they may not let you do it online if it is a smart meter.

(I have to because my smart gas meter is too far away from my smart electricity meter for it to relay its readings. They knew this when installing the meters but stuck with it. Since I have a smart gas meter I can't submit online readings, so I have to call them once a month, hardly a problem for me as I'll do it whilst I'm getting paid to do it.)

  • Should I say yes?

No, unless they are offering such a huge discount that it outweighs the enormous privacy and security costs to both you and wider society.

  • Speaking of sparks, and forgetting the read-the-fine-print, why do my knobby elec providers keep upping my monthly DD when it's a fixed 12mth rate, only for me to tell them it's fixed and them to go "oh yes it is" and leave it alone?

  • Because for every person who complains, tens don't?

  • I don't understand how people can actually be lazier than me. Like, £25/month down the toilet lazy. I mean.. ah fuck it, they voted brexit, fuck 'em.

  • What would the chainline be on DA9000 with wolf tooth 1x ring?

  • What would the chainline be on DA9000 with wolf tooth 1x ring?

    47.5mm according to Wolftooth

  • Ta! Couldn’t see that when I looked

  • Any recommendations for a smoothie/juice shop near Soho/Bond Street/Oxford Circus?

  • Anyone got a hack for something I can attach to this, that will stay attached? The rubber tip-grip always gets knocked off before long on my right foot - long before it feels like time to replace the cleats.

  • Sugru?

  • Just ditch grip cleats all together and they can't fall off anymore. The non grip ones engage and feel better anyway.

  • It’s only a small bit of grip, but once it’s gone, I find other than tarmac or carpet is lethally slippery. Are the non-grip ones not like that all the time?

  • Not heard of that stuff before. Looks interesting for a few different things. Namely packing a hole where a wall plug has been ripped out. You used it before?

  • I never walk in mine without putting cleat covers on to be a fair. If you need to walk they will preserve the lifespan of your cleats significantly

  • ^ This.

If you want a budget hack, then I'd get some glue, a pair of scissors and an inner tube.

But if the OG tip can't hack it, I don't see anything DIY holding-up longer.

  • If a cell contains the following value, but is formatted as text, how do I remove the currency sign and comma once I've changed it to being formatted as currency, without having to go into every cell and delete those manually?

    $60,000
