Yes I know, but I'm trying to get to the background of axle manufacture. Early ones are from the big bad Schaeffler. Why the change.

Probably couldn’t keep up with demand or quality or price point I’d imagine!

You can mix and match iso and jis, just need the right length of bb to cope. All information available in the bible...

75's have always been their own taper I think. They're closer to ISO than JIS but Sugino still reckon it deforms the cranks if you use an ISO BB. It's probably less of an issue if you've got a sealed BB as you don't need to be taking the cranks on and off for maintenance so often.
Sugino do a sealed BB now (CBB-SG75) that is apparently quite good, that's what I'm going to use on my Brompton when I switch the cranks.

Isn’t NJS = ISO ?

• #4382
Nope... @mdcc_tester would tell you why... ;)

On this occasion, Pope Sheldon was found to less infallible than some people would have you believe.

Strictly speaking, I'd tell you to stop using square taper, it has long since been superseded by better alternatives.

Saw that one coming

I always assumed that the Hatta BB was the same taper as the Sugino 75 BB (they give exactly the same chainline) but I don't know about other NJS cranks and BBs.
I'd be interested to know if Sugino are an exception and other NJS cranks are ISO, or if all NJS components are an intermediate taper like the Sugino 75s.

We had this debate on here over ten years ago, numerous fucking times... NJS = ISO

better alternatives
Is there a sensible non-square taper alternative for a Brompton?

Yaaaaassssss. Ordered. I will look so great.

I almost ordered at the weekend, just couldn’t bring myself to spend £70+ on a pair of tyres that are no functionally better than the £40pair of black ones I’d just changed for new.
Were they a proper cotton sidewall... then you’d be talking. -

But they are pretty.

Buyers gonna buy
Since when? My circa 2007 S75s are ISO... I've run them on S75 and Campag BBs with no problems whatsoever...
