Pretty difficult combo to beat in a team sport. Unless the ref fucks up in awarding fouls against you.

Dude aware of all of the above, commentator is making them out to be the second coming of every team during ferguson’s Reign.
Enjoy the underdog story as much as the next fan. No issues with that. Just not sure they should be being as hyped as the commentator has been doing. Whether that’s to keep people watching, or to ensure that no one turns over - who would it’s a world cup final for chris sakes. I don’t know.

If England played like Croatia in this final I would have been immensely proud. But well done France topping a great tournament..

They were the better team in the game. A very soft free kick opportunity, and an awful penalty decision to France. It should have been 2:2 and extra time.

They're worth bigging up because they have shown themselves to be worth the hype.

I’m not sure about that, I’m partisan as I wanted France to win, but though Croatia chased the game, didn’t feel like they were the better team, let down by their lack of finishers.

Obviously I’m looking at it from a different direction than you. Just to be clear I have no issue with Croatia or their determination/skill/endeavour to get to this point. I had issue with commentators hyping of them, when it was 3-1. I saw it as giving a greater shine to England falling to their hands, you saw it as something else..

I don't think Croatia chased the game at all. Aside from 10 minutes of good play, France were quite average. I totally agree with you about Croatia's lack of finishers. They had by far the better opportunities (did France have a shot on goal during open play in the first half?) and if Croatia could have got the ball in the net, they could have easily been 4 up by half time.

However, Griesman (with his first touch at 17mins) was a clear dive, he was halfway down before contact with the Croatian player, and it was bad luck with the following free kick. And the penalty was a poor call and game changer.

Overall, a team with a population of a couple of London Borough's (4m) got through to the World Cup Final and played their socks off. It's just a shame that the Ref's decisions had such an influence on the game.

How did that game end up 4-2?! Lots of mistakes. Have to say I really enjoyed it.

Modric winning the golden ball was a great decision.

Yeah I get what you're trying to say, I just ignore the commentary mostly. Its easy to support a team with loads of talent and its easy to cheer on the underdog. I think it's more simply, that Croatia (like Belgium) could and should have had more from their chances. France didn't look great under pressure and Croatia looked like they lacked ideas after a bit.
