Not sure if the 140mm refers to the travel or something else
Probably what Planet X have cut the steerer to.

This is nice. Maybe I'll buy a Santa Cruz.

Reba is probably the best comoromise of performance/price.
What extra you spend you'll likely get back used.
Ironing out washboard is a tough ask - small bump sensitivity without excessive dive

I've cracked and bought the Ritchey (Merlin we're offering an extra 10% off plus loyalty discount - what was I supposed to do?!)
So, next question is what 27.5 140mm travel forks that don't cost (much) more than the frame? The Timberwolf is designed around on the fly adjustable travel forks but they seem to be few and far between.

Wouldn’t bother with the dual position stuff.

Just finished my first mtb race ever, 68 km. Semi-bonked with 5 km to go but overall pretty pleased! Bike performed better than me though. Very impressed with the 2.8" tyres, mega traction uphill and not a puncture in sight.

My little nephew's Pronghorn hardtail. I am slightly warming up to Lauf forks. Slightly. Rowdy pink helps it imo.
-
• #11661
Hah yeah that looks cool. Dropper + lauf is a bit odd but I guess whatever works.

It suits his riding style I guess. He is 16yo and fearless. He used to ride 120mm Fox 32 and Rockshox things...

• #11663
They look just the ticket, thanks!
-
• #11664
Yeah - great buy if you don't mind slightly older non-boost forks.
(some slightly conflicting information on there - looks like the 140s are the non-boost forks, but it doesn't really matter if they turn out to be boost).

• #11665
Going from a singlespeed 26er sporting qrs and v brakes to 27.5, hydraulic brakes and thru axles. Boost can wait till the full sus thank you very much ;)

Yeah that's gonna be a lot of fun. I kinda miss my long travel hard tail - it always worked, never moaned, clicked or creaked.
-
• #11667
Moaned? I've obviously been riding selfishly, never had a moan.
-
• #11668
That looks really fascinating. Would really love to hear a suspension engineers view on this and how it can handle fast rebound stuff without being jumpy.
I suppose it's similar to the way some motorbikes have the rear end set up so close to the rear wheel; then again, this is a pedal bike so I suppose the dynamic requirements are different. -

This. No idea wtf they mean. Might get them anyway and see what's what. Thanks for the opinions.

Having a crisis. Help?
Do I sell my Caad 12 and Yeti Big Top to purchase this;
https://www.westbrookcycles.co.uk/scott-spark-rc-900-world-cup-full-suspension-mountain-bike-2018-p329338
Found for 4700ish so will pricematch.Orrrrr
Sell Yeti Big Top only and buy this;
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Yeti-ASR-Carbon-29er-Nearly-New-XL-2017-Mountain-Bike_118169.htm
Which is a lot of bike for the money. Not worried about boost - just my arse. Hence FS.
I've got 20 + miles of fire road and single track where I am in the West county all of 3 miles from my house. I enjoy riding my mountain bike, and find the road bike a little bit of a chore - only ride solo. I commute 5 hours so don't have time for weekday rides only weekends. So I'm really just happy to be out on the bike.
I'm pretty close to Windhill and both are suitably rowdy that slamming the post I can land mediocrly on top of the tabletops and have a bit of fun. -

both of your links go to the same page.
imo don't spend £4700 on a bike, that's silly money and well into diminishing returns. -
• #11674
Fixed!
Yeah, that's my thoughts too. The Yeti is adequate, I can move across some of my nice stuff from my current bike.
And I can keep the Caad 12... -
• #11675
Buy the Yeti, but sell the CAAD and keep the Big Top. Obvs.
For £144 it’s fine, assuming XC and light trail duties.
Not sure if the 140mm refers to the travel or something else - that seems long for a recon.
Upper tubes are steel so need a bit of care - wipe with an oily rag after a wet ride - to prevent corrosion.
