Can you use any chilli seeds to grow new plants?
Like, I have some shop bought jalapeno, can I harvest the seeds from that and plant them? Also I have a plant that is finally fruiting now, I'd like to take seeds from that for next year's crop. (As it's proven to like my garden)
..what @jdp already said basically - definitely keep the seeds from the one fruiting in your garden (wash and dry them, and store in dry place for nex year).
Also there's shop bought ones (see F1 Hybrids in plants) which will not have fertile seeds.
That being said almost all of the ones I planted from shop-bought Habaneros worked totally fine so far. -

Got loads of chillis on the go now, even the ones I planted late are fruiting!

@Cazakstan almost out of Hell Jam. When does the order book open?

My chillies are fruiting better than ever before. How do I know when to pick? Should I wait for some red colour or go for them green?

Depends on what kind of chilies you have but in general you would like them to have as much sun as possible (if you like them hot).
In my experience they still go a long way from looking beautiful and ripe (red) to actually being hot. -

Funny you should say that.. I made a new batch on Sunday..

My mystery chilli plant had 1 fruit that got massive, now has loads of new ones growing.
I'm beginning to think it might just be bell peppers, which is anti climatic, but still nice to get free food. The wahaca seeds I planted a few weeks ago have maybe stopped growing at a very small size. I'll just keep watering them and leaving them in the sunshine.

Sweet! Other half just moved offices to Blackfriars. Do you ever do SE beers anymore?

I think it is notable that Aroogah didn't ask: 'When are you making a new batch?' but 'When does the order book open?' The only possible conclusion is that he could sense that it was happening. :)

Blackfriars is much easier for me to get to than Knightsbridge! I work Central and live East.. Can still do office drops..

No worries!

Bit of a harvest, enough to make a chilli sauce. Blender mini explosion ended up with some on my arm, can confirm it'll be hot enough, included a couple of Aji Lemon I was given too.

Can’t believe how fast this thing is growing. It’s actually about 5 plants in there but one of them is really going for it.
Hopefully will get some decent fruit next summer - these were just freebie seeds from Wahaca so they might be a bit mild.

It's indeed a bit late (read: too late), but give them more light - put them outside?

Pinch off the top buds/growth, should trigger them to grow outwards. Give them space to do this though too!

Polytunnel pick today. Think they're wilko cheapo cayenne & padron. Forgot I had the latter.

Also got some Dorset Naga seeds on their way. Bit scarred to try them tbh but it’s a fun gimmick.
First ripe Habanero, was much hotter than Scotch Bonnet, made a pasta sauce that had me weeping.
