I went into Evans Cycles yesterday, nothing inherently wrong with it I guess, but Christ is this what cycling's become? Acres of bland bikes with rectilinear carbon frames or aluminium in various matt finishes, any craftmanship just obliterated into just one more homogenous lifestyle product. The only metallic painted bike in the shop was a top end cannondale. Not one lug in there. All this built to a pricepoint shite too - which always makes me think of this planets finite resources, at least when I was younger you'd buy a good frame and trade the parts up bit by bit. You'd go into the old Harry Hall's, and ogle Dura Ace in the cabinets at the counter. I sound like a right old git, but I was glad to get home to my beloved steelies last night. No soul in that place at all.
