Thought they might be proprietary, shame as the hubs seem great...

Would a 16h front be okay for a HC/race only wheel?
Presumably 16h will be fine for lightweights if the rim is strong enough and can take high tension? The rim I'm looking at has an upper limit of 180kgf.

Yeah

In my experience, it would be OK for a 100kg rider taking to gravel paths on his road bike π

At least 16g saved π

You can buy the rs80/rs81 c24 rims for a straight transplant. Takes an afternoon to get it true.

I have a sweet SS wheelset for sale, 32h WTB rims, Sapim D light spokes, American Classic hubs. Quick Release tough

And how much?

Thanks both, looking at a couple or hubs with options that have a 20h rears - would that be a terrible idea?

Good point. I'm not sure it's financially viable though.

I know a few people that swear by them

The Shimano Tech Docs have diagrams of all their wheels and give the exact spoke lengths.
I am 90kg and use C35s. -

Considering these too now, they look like pretty good bang for your buck.
Though I'm also thinking of building my own wheels again. Kinlin XR200 rims on Hope RS4 hubs would make for a really nice set of wheels. Getting hold of some XR200s seems tricky though, & a Google suggests just buying a complete set of wheels for only another hundred more than just the rims. Anyone know if these are any good?

thanks but i think I'll pass. I've had my eyes on a fresh pair of handbuilts for a bit...
thanks anyway. -

How loud are the hubs on the Hunt Aerowide wheels? Canβt find any YouTube videos.
My friend has hope hubs and itβs near impossible to have a conversation while he is freewheeling.
-
• #8145
Pretty quiet (assuming the hubs are the same as the four season disc and gravel disc)
-
• #8146
I could be wrong but I think the latest version of the RS4 hub is quieter because of a new rachet mechanism

Sorry if this isn't the right thread but don't know where to ask, are the DT Swiss R 500 good rims for a fixed gear bike? Similar to H Plus Son Hydra but cheaper, what you think?

You're more likely to find somebody who has actually built them into wheels in the wheelbuilding thread (where you'll be told to use Kinlin XR31 π)

I built @Cycliste some lightweight wheels using Bitex RAF10/RAR12 hubs, CX-Rays and XR200 rims, 28R24F. They are indeed light at 1340g, and seem to have held up well so far. I had to replace the rear rim, but that was due to @Cycliste crashing and the rear wheel being run over by another rather large rider. They're very narrow rims though, and not in any way aero, so unless weight is the overriding consideration I'd say there are better choices out there.

You can get XR31Ts in 16h drillings. I've got two.
Found this post on Weight Weenies which is the only reference I can find to someone rebuilding these hubs. Doesn't sound ideal.
