Did you hear Francois Thomazeau’s theory on the abundance of roundabouts in France on the Cycling Podcast? It’s a good way for the mayors of French towns to get bribes, the more roundabouts the more corrupt the mayor is.

I go to Mur de Bretagne now : )

Caught up the last 2 stages last night. Not much mention of Greipel? I thought his sprint was impressive and if he'd been better positioned/not sprinted 7000km just to get up to Gaviria it might have been his

I don't get it. What's special about RABs?
Mayors take bribes from RAB-builders?
-
• #456
Exactly.

Anyone tried to pay off local councillors in the UK to get certain sections of road fixed?
What's the rough £/mi ? -
• #458
They are not bribes they are 'gifts & hospitality'

ask Sir Dave Brailsford, he seems to know a lot about how French mayors operate

To be honest, I understood it slightly differently - when building a roundabout, it's easy to compile a budget for construction in such a way that it will include a significant base for a future kick-back. Which kind of makes more sense rather than roundabout builders bribing mayors just to be able to build a roundabout?..
Subtle differences, I know, but given that I am based in Russia currently, this seems quite obvious to me :) -

I’m not sure they’re all that desirable...

Heh. That photo is rather old, non? Looks like a CAAD7 frame, from like 2003.
When they might have been bleeding edge.

Those are screenshots was from Perry Ap Gwynedd's insta story yesterday, so I'd say they were at least present at yesterday's finish
-

Possibly, but they are 15 year old frames (and equipment by the looks of things - Square Taper K-Force anyone?), so unlikely they were there to be used by pros.
A curiosity no doubt though. Wonder who's shed they've been in, and how much dust needed to be removed.

The branding on those FSA K Force cranks is of that vintage too. Not entirely convinced it's recent. Also a bit confused by the wheel selection - wouldn't Mavic choose to advertise their flash crabon at the Tour?

yeah maybe it was some sort of tourist attraction Histoire De Tour type shit. I've asked, would be a shame to discover Mavic are falling on hard times or something
-
• #468
I did! Was hoping David Lappartient's town was going to be full of them.
Must say Francois is a great addition to the Tour editions of the podcast, really adds another dimension to the whole thing.

This is how I understood it worked too

Those frames won't take modern wide road rims :)

Maybe they're the ones for Speedplay users

A friend of mine told me that cities used to get EU funding for creating roundabouts. She was from Borlänge in Sweden where they have shitloads just to get as much monies from the EU as possible. Best one I found was a painted circle in the middle of a regular four way crossing.

This EU ting sounds rubbish. We should leave.
