If you take spare spokes the most likely ones to go are drive side on the rear. So how are you going to get your cassette off to replace?
Better to make sure your wheel is well built and not likely to fail.
According to @cycleclinic who built my wheels, hitting potholes doesn't typically cause spoke breakage.
