Quintana is a bit behind, which suggests that Valverde and Landa might be favoured. Would Quintana work for one of the other two, or both, if he lost more time?

Say Movistar lose a rider or two through injury, would they have one domestique each?

Is Soler happy to be a superdom still or is he thinking he's in reserve to be a fourth(!) potential GC contender?

Is there any logic to any of their decisions?

Quintana could argue that he could get that time back in the mountains. Its not going to end well that's for sure.

I think any Movistar decision is a way off yet.
I still consider it a nice problem to have, of course that might play out very differently.

It’ll be clear who is Movistar leader on Sunday. Then again after the first mountain stage. Then again after the second mountain stage. Then after Alpe d’Huez. Then the Pyrenees. Then for the final TT.

Imagine if he gets in the front group on the cobbles and ends up putting another 45 seconds into froome. Could then get interesting on the team bus.

Of course if Thomas does do this he'll probably manage to crash the following day and lose all the time gains.
