  • Looking to turn my bottom spec hardrock into a budget 1x7 groad thing.
    Needed:
Single chainset - current one is the riveted boat anchor triple.
    Shorter stem and shallow drops.
Is 7sp drop bar shifter a thing?
    Better cantis eventually.

    Current build

  • If you choose to remain with 7 speed:
There are ST-A410 Shimano RSX road STI's that are 7s and will work just fine with any Shimano RD of that era. I use these on an 1x7 setup, they work fine, but might be hard to find in a proper condition.

Your other main choice could be microSHIFT STI's from AliExpress/Amazon/anywhere you can find. They too make Shimano compatible 7s variants.

Also you can use post-2001 9sp Campagnolo Ergopower shifters, the lower end models should be quite cheap if you buy them used. They work flawlessly with the 7sp Shimano casette and RD. (This works with 10s Campag + 8s Shimano setups as well. Shimagnolo is underrated!)

Cool bike by the way, if you make a CP thread I'll deffo follow it. :)
