My missus has been procrastinating about buying a lovely pair of Vynilize frames for a couple of years now, I wish she'd just get on with it and pull the trigger...
We went back to the shop and tried them on AGAIN a couple of weeks back...

Anyone have any experience with buying old frames and getting them reglazed?
-
• #657
Not usually a problem, you'll get warned that your optician won't be responsible if the frame snaps but that's about it...

Yes, eBay old stock. Worked well enough, but the quality was not incredible but that's to be expected paying 35€ for the frame.
I would be careful with plastic frames, the can become brittle. -

hmm well i just spent a few hours with an eye test and ordering some glasses at Boots - as im a newbie in the glasses world i had no idea what was going on really - but anyway ordered some POLICE glasses at £190 with a week until i get my prescription (reading only)
only to come back and look online and they are £69.00 and £115.00 with my prescription at a half price deal......is it feasible to immediately phone boots and cancel the order?

Cheers both, glad to hear it shouldn't be a problem. Would likely go for metal frames anyway

If I have only have time to visit one spec shop on my current trip to London, where should I go?

For sure!

So I'm joining the speccy speccy four eyes club. Still deciding what style suits. All the stuff I thought I'd like doesn't suit me at all. Need to try on more stuff.

Holy shit that image is great. Hold up the phone as if you're looking at it though the glasses. But don't look at it. Or me. Or though the glasses. And smile. But look sort of dead behind the eyes? Less focussed. ... PERFECT.

Anybody know a properly skilled frames repairer in the UK?
I have some Lindberg acetaniums (titanium/plastic) which were under a computer monitor when it toppled over...

I'm sure I've seen a similar question in here before but can't seem to find it. Where's good to get the lenses in a pair of Rayban wayfarers replaced with tinted prescription lenses? I'm not based in London so somewhere I can send them off to or a high street chain or something would be best.

Loads of online reglazing services.
Select specs, ciliary blue, glasses direct, I've used for either reglazes or new glasses and had no dramas.

Trying to order some glasses from Glasses Direct, based on my contact lens prescription and the "sphere" parameter doesn't go high enough - if, of course, I am correct and that's the first cell in the chart below?

Sphere is another term for Power in your table above; not sure what the 'Parameters' bit is, but that may be contacts-specific. For a standard specs prescription you just need power (or sphere), and cylinder and axis for any astigmatism (and possibly Pupillary Distance).

Also bear in mind that your contact lens prescription isn't the same as your glasses prescription. From what I remember, glasses are stronger (as they sit further from your eye).

This is true - I have 2 prescriptions. Get one for free from Specsavers, etc.
That's the look I was going for...
