Gearing resolved. Chain was too long and some artful setup work from LBS pal took care of the rest. All I need to do now is wrap the bars and swap the seatpost and it's done. Have just ordered an aesthetically sympathetic bidon to compliment paint and once that arrives I'll try (and likely fail) at some nice photos.
