Got some cheap On One Midges on eBay. Went for a spin up a nearby traily thingy (Corstophine Hill for those in the know) to try them out. I like it, at max width you've got a lot more leverage and it feels a bit mountain-bikey, enough that I could get around all these big rocks and roots and stuff as shown in the picture. I was at the limit of traction on these tyres though so I'll be interested to try them with my 650bs on and see how gnarly I can go before the bars become an obstacle.
Riding on the tops is the same obviously and on the hoods it's pretty similar but reaching for the brakes isn't as natural. Still adjusting the lever position a little bit, and slightly concerned about how it'll feel riding into the wind without any aero position to get into (wrists on tops is okay but feels sketchy). Think I'll pair up with aero bars for touring and I'd like some cross top levers too I think.
Annoying that these are glossy instead of matte...
