That is very boring, with only 5000 miles a year total probably only 1000 with family, slow speeds of 65 on the motorway, a ladder frame construction and a hefty weight we'll be fine, just hope no-one crashes into us as their car will be mullered. Also for the small initial investment i'm less likely to lose all of my money if/when i sell it on with potential to actually make money which would be nice.
Not wanting to be too boring, but how safe are they if you've got a family?
It doesn't look like there's any strength above the door handles.
If you're OK with a diesel* then an XC90 looks like a great option, especially if you're planing on more then 2.
*petrols are few and far between.
