  • Haha! It’s on our drive in a nice-ish bit of town, I think the big hill puts off window-smashing crackheads too.

  • Don't suppose anyone on here wants a set of 4 matching 215/45/17 tyres?
    Bought a car that had a virtually new set on but I've lifted it so fitted some chunkier rubber. Would do a cheap forum price.

  • It tends to be a problem caused by people moving close to long established circuits and then complaining about the noise. Most people that have lived there a decent amount of time tend not to care. My dad used to organise trackdays at Croft and they always managed to run lots of noisy days which were great. Then, the circuit got taken to court by one of the circuit owners ex-wife and her parents who, co-incidently, lived not far from the circuit, and had an injunction slapped on limiting them to 40 noisy days a year.

  • Mk1 focus were quote bad for corrosion. There are two in my yard that look OK, but sub frame to body area is dust.
    At that price point I would be buying private (anything under 2k), very few good trader cars at that value unless you are lucky.

  • Anyone got any advice / thoughts on a range rover classic? i want to move my swb w460 gwagon on and go for a range rover classic LWB '88-'93, has to be Auto, maybe a 3.9 or a 4.6 as i only do 5k miles a year

  • Why do you want to move the G-Wagon on, just fancy a change or something else?

  • Growing family! want to move house next year as we have a second kid coming in October, I can get £17.5k for mine as a running project (there is always a list of jobs on a G), put £10k in the bank and spend a few grand on a cheap and cheerful luxury 4x4 with space for all the crap I lug around. I'll miss the 300 horses the most but 'needs must' and all that.

  • Not wanting to be too boring, but how safe are they if you've got a family?

    It doesn't look like there's any strength above the door handles.

    If you're OK with a diesel* then an XC90 looks like a great option, especially if you're planing on more then 2.

    *petrols are few and far between.

  • That is very boring, with only 5000 miles a year total probably only 1000 with family, slow speeds of 65 on the motorway, a ladder frame construction and a hefty weight we'll be fine, just hope no-one crashes into us as their car will be mullered. Also for the small initial investment i'm less likely to lose all of my money if/when i sell it on with potential to actually make money which would be nice.

  • I had an XC70 as a courtesy car for 3 months last year which was quite nice to drive but that amount of ordinary would send me round the bend.

  • Ha! I'm not buying it! It's my old car that was supposed to be getting scrapped.

    It failed an mot (at that point I said scrap it because estimated repair cost was about £1k), then the garage seems to of sprayed the underside with a sealant compound and put it through an mot again.

  • Clutch in, aircon off, scored 99.7 on the same test.

  • Saga continues. Got a new battery, pulled the plugs to crank and check the oil pressure. No oil pressure. Checked the sender, all OK. Fortunately after a bit of head scratching, the gauge had stuck and suddenly jumped back into life.

    Refitted the plugs which is one of the most miserable experiences ever (an hour and many skinned knuckles for 8 plugs) only to find #7 lead is burnt out from contact with the header. Need to get a new lead and shorty plug.

    Does anyone know if I can mix shorty and standard plugs of the same heat rating and resistance? They're all NGK. The idea of buying another complete new set and changing all of them doesn't appeal...

  • It was my understanding that Classics had really started to rise in value over the last 2 years. A quick look on Pistonheads classifieds shows the cheapest one at 9k and describes it as a project. Most others were upwards of 15K.
