Somewhere you can lock a loaded touring bike up without having to remove everything (so some kind of rugged cage or metal box).
Power outlet next to the bike so you can leave things on charge without having to remove them.
If bikes are hung or stored vertically, some system which is compatible with full mudguards.

Shelter for bikes, or a shelter for cyclists, or both? Either way, one of those track pump/tool stations; tap for filling bottles; proper stands that you can lock a loaded bike to (widely spaced Sheffield stands are probably the most functional solution).

I've seen the competition discussed elsewhere, but the function of the shelters isn't too clear - are they just rest stops or for overnight?
I think the Eurovelo routes are aimed at "normal" cycle tourists rather than endurance racers. For heavily loaded people sedately following the Rhine route or whatever, vertical storage of fully loaded bikes is likely impractical.
If for overnight stops, especially if designing for northern Europe (you can choose where your design would go, I think), some kind of drying facility!
Hi,
A friend of mine is a commercial interior designer (Sigma Sports, some Vodafone offices etc) and is hoping to enter an architectural design competition , which includes the design of cyclist shelters to use on the Eurovelo cycle routes.
For those who have done, or planning to do a long distance tour/race like this , we are looking for some input into what "necessities" you would like to see incorporated into the design. Things like - bed shapes , charger ports, lock faculties etc.
Of course, any other cool features you have come across which may be incorporated, would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
