I think we all know what would happen if Tommy Windmills had tried to replicate that fuelling regime.

I have an elevated HR, medical issue or something so normally 10bpm higher than someone else of equivalent fitness. Fills me with jealousy, these pros with HR’s just short of being dead total of 12 hours each day.

Some of my runner friends have a RHR of 36 and Max of 170, so considering that Froome is probably one of the most aerobically efficient humans on the planet right now, not so ridiculous maybe.

Maybe the outcome would have helped his W/Kg up the climbs....

I remember when Steve Abrahams (poor spelling i think) got hit by that car and he hit 27bpm on the roadside while waiting for an ambulance.

Max heart rate has nothing to do athletic performance no? I'm sure there are elites with very high heart rates too. I always thought of it a bit like two car engines with same BHP, but one is a 2.4L turbo revving at 10,000rpm+ and the other a 6.0L V12 grunting away at 6000rpm. Two ways to get the same result.

Dad used to have a Ford with a Cosworth engine. He said it ran amazing, til it exploded.

tbh i think for me just getting up the Finestre was like cheating both death and genetics. Recent flow test wasn't even reaching 350 because I've got so much fluid and mucous in my lungs courtesy of Lyme... hopefully one day I can repeat the feat.

I rest at 55, threshold at 185 and max at 200. I hope I don't explode.

I suppose one of the traits of top GC riders is world class digestive systems?
The team buses must have giant toilet storage tanks...
Looks like the planned weight loss wasn't dramatic, but better than hoovering up all the carbs and being 1kg heavier for the mountains.
Riders talk about being lighter after the tour, which makes a lot of sense, but never heard of anyone planning for it.
