Just finished watching the replay, difficult not to get a bit emotional after those penalties... I was half asleep this morning, couldn't really process it... Much more fun the second time... #bedwetter

Won't that leave our back 3 rathrr exposed?
Depends how far down the penalty takers list we have to go.

Watching England in Tottenham has helped change my mind about them.
It's hard to keep up the grumbles about racist, arrogant fans when you're with such a mixed group of normal people.
I was also impressed with the Colombian fans in Seven Sisters last night. After the game, most of them that I saw were still in good spirits, lots of shrugging and rueful smiles rather than bitterness.
There's something nice about my first memory of England in a tournament being Euro 96 and Pearce and Southgate's penalties, and now 22 years on it's come back around in a way.

I'm not saying they're pure as the driven snow. But I think they're the only team with enough grit/huevos/balls to take Brazil on. And they're just as snide as Brazil/worse than Brazil for this, so it'll be E P I C.
Plus. If they did play, there's more chance of watching Cavani boot Neymar.
And tbf, that would make my world cup. -

Maguire going down in the box and immediately signalling to the ref it wasn’t a pen despite a torrent of unsportsmanlike behaviour from the opposition was great to see.

Still no goals from open play.
Haven't scored a goal from open play in a knockout match since 2004.

Nope just Southgate and the paper bag
And Gazza being about five pints too slow to get to that ball across the box

I was watching the game in Nottingham last night and as extra time was about to start, the pub decided that their scheduled pub quiz must go on, because you know, pub quiz moaners (a distinctly annoying British subspecies). This caused a fight that eventually spilled outside onto the road. The plod showed up in time for penalties, arrested several on suspicion of affray, and managed to make peace just in time for Henderson's miss. It was a real Pinteresque comedy of menace, but with an unexpectedly happy ending.

I am with you on most of that.
Vardy or Rashford for Sterling depends on how Sweden want to set up. If Sweden defend and try and hit us on the counter, you'd want Rashford, more tricks and skill to create something.
If Sweden want to give it a go, Vardy to knock it over the top and run onto.. -

But Joe Cole?
Sweden?
edit: group game. -

your thoughts on young have been echoed in the office this morning.
I'm a Rose fan, and I'll stand by wanting him in the team, as he brings more to it, plus a bit of a bolshy edge.but Uruguay need to get past France, and Brazil need to get past Belgium for your wish to come true. Not sure either of those matches will have the desired result. France look full of confidence and Mbappe will put Godin under pressure, and Belgium have the firepower to make Brazil worried..
Not much work will be getting done on Friday.

Apparently plenty of England fans on twitter asking Stan Collymore for advice on knocking out the Swedes.......

so glad hendo's penalty miss wasn't important
that could have been the slippy g for the upcoming season opposition fans singing his name at every ground
the hate figure for a generationhe looked so relieved when we finally won it

I'd be the first to peg Henderson for being shite, but he played well the whole match and even the penalty was a decent hit, drew a really good save from Ospina.
-
• #144799
He also lost his head a couple of times and could easily have been sent off. You can definitely see why he's not captain.

Henderson? I didn't notice that. If the ref wasn't sending any Colombians off, Henderson certainly had no risk of it.
100% agree with all of this... I can't see Ingerlund rising to the inspiring level unless they just get super lucky and everything goes their way... Lumpy but solid, they've got a couple of players who can produce those moments of magic but I don't think they will... But I'd like to be wrong...
