Aluminium.
I just deglazed the pads and they’re still quite soft. Did the penny trick and both sides are landing front-first. Still squealing, so I’m going to nip up the headset but I think you might be right that it’s the fork resonating. Different pad probably means different friction which means different resonant frequency- ie you get lucky and it doesn’t howl!

Steel fork? I had this. No matter what I did nothing would fix it. Fitted one of these in the end and it was fine.
