• I just checked the two I need to adjust, they're both 32mm. But yeah, the fact that they're all different (everyone loves how often the bicycle industry changes standards) is why I wanted an adjustable one. But I don't think I'll be owning a 1 1/8" threaded 36mm headset any time soon and if I am I guess I'll just borrow a tool

and yes, I got it to work before I saw your comment :)

  • Just buy value (ie not chinesium) spanners in the right size as you need. Much easier.
Don't bother with fancy grips, they just take up space!

If you were nearer (you're Edinburgh right?) I'd offer to lend you the one you need!

  • Yeah, Edinburgh. There is actually a shop nearby that'd charge me literally pennies for the 1 minute job of tightening the headset up, so I can always go in there, but I tend to fix my bikes last thing at night and the shop is only open Tuesday - Saturday at normal working hours, so no good if I'm riding in to work Monday morning and my headset's loose (as it was this morning). If I do have to adjust a 1 1/8 headset it'll be a friend's bike or something and not a late night job, so think I should be mostly covered with a 32mm. Plus I could always do the 1-spanner method with my fat adjustable one if I have to

Kind of you to offer though, thanks :)
