  • You mean this chap?

  • Nah, it wasn't funny then either. It was more a dig at the media.

  • thread dredge...

i'm going this wednesday to queue for a ground pass ticket with some tennis-mad friends.
we aim to get on one of the outside courts, see some good quality even matches, rather than federer thrashing some poor unknown guy on centre court.
what time should we get there? he says 06:30 but I think even that may be too late...

  • Since you will be up early, go as early as you can.

Or, just go at 3.30pm, queue til 5pm, get centre court return ticket at 6pm for a tenner when the corporate bods go home pissed.

  • Just a shame Tim’s pulled out

  • I'm going tomorrow but managed to get lucky with the ballot. People were lining up at 4am to get tickets this morning.

  • @Hamham this for Ground Passes? I thought they were a bit less competitive than the tickets

  • I think this year I'm going a few more times than normal so Weds+Thurs this week and might do another next week.

  • also going tomorrow, got tickets with the returns yesterday.

would really encourage people to try get returns tickets from ticketmaster,
i got in last year the same way as well

  • Not quite sure was I listening to the Wimbledon radio and someone mentioned they got there at 4am.

    For updates.

  • Nothing in the ballot for the last few years.

For ground passes I usually go straight from collecting my daughter from school (3pm finish), get to the queue at 3.30pm and half the time walk pretty much straight in, half the time queue for an hour or two. Depends on brit-hope I guess (the longest queue was last year on a rainy Tuesday when Konta was playing).

Haven't ever bothered going for the returns queue at the top of the hill, more fun to wander into a random outer court and watch for a bit.

Had about 6 years of nephews being ball boys but that lot are all too old now (the last one, aged 14 then, was 6'4", always drew a few funny comments from the players and umpires.)

  • Did you go? Tuesday was great fun.

  • Went with my friend and she got on the radio(19min in).

  • Yep. Here's a recap for anyone who was wondering, like me.

    Got there at 5:55am.
Cycled straight to the front of the queue.
    Place 2600 in the queue.
Put the bike away. There's loads of safe bike parking.
Queued for 4.5hrs. Slept the first 1.5hrs.
Bike tools and helmet put away at the checked baggage area, security wouldn't let me in with them
£25 on the door, they take card now, for a grounds pass.
Into Court 3 at 10:30, stayed there the whole day.
Saw a brit go out, then a fabulous match that Gael Monfils won, then Wawrinka.
    Fucking top notch day out.
P.S. - don't leave your seat to go the loo. You lose the seat and won't be able to get it back without queuing for a few hours. Pee in a bottle if you need to.

  • My advice for everyone queuing would be to get there just before 6am.
Most people seem to turn up between 6am and 7:30am. Something like 500 people every 15 minutes.
    Before 6 it's a lot more chill.

  • Loving the Palace x adidas kits on court

  • Joined the queue for ground passes at 3.20pm today. Got in about 5pm. Watched a boys game (Brit Blu Baker lost) on an outer court, wandered about a bit more. Watched some of a doubles game near Court 12. Up to Henman Hill to watch Djokovic on the big screen. At about 8.45pm we were tipped off by a policeman that they were going to let anyone in to Centre Court for free for the end of the Murray/Azarenka doubles match and we should take the kids before everyone is told and there's a mad sprint.

We got in there with Murray/Azarenka 5-1 down in the 3rd set, they won the following 6 games.

Bloody amazing afternoon/evening on the cheap (except the food/booze).

  • Nicely done, that sound like a perfect Wimbledon visit.

Centre Court is a wonderful arena isn't it?

  • Ridiculous match between Anderson and Isner. Both barely walked off the court.

  • Seems such a waste of time taking that long to work out who is going to get trounced by Djokovic or Nadal in the final.

  • Their game is equally as good though. Everyones going to be fucked by the final.

  • Djokovic vs Nadal is like a heavy weight boxing slugfest.. going 15 rounds

  • Just incredible
