  • What a legend, I hope Putin one-ups him at their summit by using one of his KGB/bear hunting moves by choke slamming the fat tosser into the assembled journos..

  • If, and it is a terrifyingly not bigly big "if", Trump overthrows the democratic process in the USA and becomes a dictator, what would it take for the rest of the world to go to war against them?

An invasion of Mexico? Racial internment camps?

  • Gun control.

Sorry I didn't understand the question.

  • They basically have ALL the nukes that work. If he goes totally postal then we have no chance. Forget Kim and Iran etc.

  • On Twitter I follow the guy who runs Pinboard. He founded Tech Solidarity, which is trying to get tech workers to reconnect with society and general rather than disappear into Google/Facebook gated communities. Tech Solidarity is running The Great Slate, a push to get progressive candidates onto the Democratic party's candidate lists (as opposed to the grey corporate policy wonks they choose by default) and to help them win election if they make it that far.

He's picked a tough fight, though. I've had a number of friends who were progressives join Google and drink the kool-aid. They still think they're progressive, but what they really think is that algorithms will just naturally make the world better.

It would need to be a new cold war, or rather the later stages of the cold war when it was largely fought on economic terms. The US has a massive military - which costs money. Isolate them, as has been done to North Korea, and do so inline with International law, with a broad consensus of nations supporting the action I reckon.

It would mean, I suspect, the EU, Africa, China, hopefully most of APAC against Russia and the USA.

  • Interesting. I've been using pinboard for years and really dig the simple UI and the pricing model. Then I read he bought up delicious just for the sake of saving a piece of internet history. Seems like a genuine and interesting guy.

  • Yeah, interesting. I like the sound of this.

  • Can't wait till Trump comes back to Scotland. A million march in London would be great but sometimes it only takes one determined person...

Janey Godley, Doyenne of Scottish Comedy. Her Daughter Ashley Storrie is an up and coming comedian also

  • This kind of scheming is why i don’t think Trump is mentally deficient. He’s stupid about a lot of stuff, but he has a kinda intuitive cunning about how to butter up people whose decisions he cares about

  • Fair And Reciprocal Tariffs Act?

  • Remember how many of your leftie friends were ardent 'anti-globalists' in the 00's. Where are they now? I'm not saying I expect them to turn into ardent Trump supporters, but a polite golf clap would be in order. And Naomi Klein could, for the sake of consistency, step forward and say that the WTO's demise is the moment to start steering trade relations in the right direction.

  • Wait. You think anti-globalization protesters from two decades ago - living in a world radically different from the one we are in today in terms of technology and industry, geopolitics, and the environment (amongst certainly many other important factors) - should some how do a mea culpa for Trump?

I think if we spent some time looking into it, we'd find that many of the issues being raised as issues during that time were contributory factors to the increase in inequality which has, very likely, been a key factor in the emergence of illiberal political ideologies.

  • can the usa come out on top in a trade war ?

  • Yes. It's the USFuckingA.

  • Depends who's on the other side. If, as appears likely at the moment, it's everyone else in the entire world, probably not. Back in the days, yes, but not now.

  • Canada and Mexico may be a bit fucked.

  • Can they just present a united front with the EU in retaliation?

  • A united front would help. And Macron made some nods towards such a thing. But I can't see the EU taking a hit for the wellbeing of non-EU citizens. (Which may be another, untimely, reminder to the UK and it's post EU place in the world)

  • Well, I think that 'globalisation' outflanked 'left' positions mainly because for a while it pretended that a pseudo-'Internationale' of 'capitalism' was possible. What's happening now (apart from Putin et al.'s divisive trolling) seems to be that the 'right' seems to be at odds over who should really reap the rewards (and, obviously, the disastrous social consequences). I put some of these terms in '' to signal that I don't think it's that simple.

    One.

    Where are they now?

    Prison in Colombia
