  • read reviews for 5 hours, ordered the 820 explore

  • rwgps now allows you to add extra cues - it's the "add to cuesheet" on the right. can add whatever type of cue you like and it should show up on a route on the wahoo when you next sync.

  • paid account?

  • nah, i just have a free one

  • Not sure which update delivered the change for my Garmin 820,but I like the option for multiple display options when you select 4,5 or 6 fields to display

Also I just changed my screen protector from a plastic one to a ‘glass’ one. Touch screen now much more responsive.

  • what swayed you?

  • the 820 explore has a touch screen, is the most basic ('dumbed down') and is the cheaper of the two. so it came came closest to my wish for just a no-nonsense navigation and tracking device. it's still offering way more than what I could ever need though.

received it a couple of days ago, struggled to get it connected, but that turned out to be a faulty usb connector cable (argh). maybe I'll post some comments here after I've used it for a while.

  • discovered this! ULTIMATE :D

  • Live Segments for skinflints

  • Just checking on the garmin v9 firmware updates (I have an 820).
    A couple of nice features...
    Alternative data screen layouts
Get assistance. Hold the power button for 4 seconds to send you location to emergency contacts
It looks like text and call notifications will stop displaying after a while.

But can someone explain the difference between the status bar weather preview and the full weather page? I have the weather via accuweather (it’s a pain to get to) but have not seen the status bar.

  • Pffff. Trying to get msg notifications to work on my element Mini for 2h now. Piece of shit won’t show nothing from my iPhone.

  • ARRGGGHH!!
I'm trying to edit a ride with gps file to start from a different point on the route (London Orbital).
Can this be done on Starter* membership? If so could someone explain how that'd be great.

Edit* I had used Basic but I meant the lowest membership

  • Just join the route wherever when you start your ride, once you finish the route, start it again on your device and it will continue round to where you started no?

  • Ha so simple.
With a bolt does this stop the recording? So would I have two rides?

  • Copy it to routes>edit the route>on the menu down the right select add/remove control points.
Add points to ‘anchor’ the existing route, at the last point you want to keep then use the add/remove and also follow roads to manipulate the start.

I usually anchor it at the point it will diverge from the route, drag the start position to the new start, then add points to make the resulting route go the way you want.

  • Excellent thanks, so obvious but couldn't see the trees for the wood.
I now have a loop starting outside leather head. Is there any easy way to move the start end point around my loop to Dartford?

  • You can start and end routes without ending the ride

  • I think you can only do that by manually removing some of the route and then add to the other end to join up. Or in that case, I would prob just ride the same gpx twice, loading up the same one when you get to the actual start/finish.

  • Wahoo Elemnt / Bolt: can I use these without ever plugging it into a proper computer?

Thinking of moving on from Garmin as one of its downsides (for me) is that I can't update the software using my Chromebook.

  • Yes. It has wi-fi built-in and hooks up to your phone through bluetooth so never needs to be plugged in to update or anything else. (I'm not sure if it even does anything if you do plug it in)

  • can I use these without ever plugging it into a proper computer?

thats one thing Wahoo excels at!

  • Perfect, thanks. Looks like I'll be joining the Wahoo gang.

  • Yeah my wahoo has never seen a computer

  • I see searched the thread but could not find this: what is the go to editor for gpx files? I am doing some touring soon based on some of the lost lanes stuff and want to add in some detours and directions to camp sites, etc.
