  • There is a middle ground. You need to give enough hints/tutorials to get you looking for the right things and then leave a player to figure it out for themselves as the game progresses.
    Suppose it depends on how directed the game is.
    If you’re supposed to go off and explore, then you should, through the course of exploring figure out what stuff is and does. If it’s more directed you need to show people what it is and where so they can keep moving forward.
    I like to be directed to a certain extent but when I’m two thirds of the way through a game, getting helpful hints isn’t something I enjoy..
