Please build a black rim / spokes onto a sealed bearing silver hub - proper classy.

What do people use the rack for? Is it mainly to wheel the bike?
-
• #4255
I tried to use it once (as an actual rack), my heels kept clipping my cargo... I'm not certain it's gonna be on there for much longer but it does afford a bit more protection when travelling abroad... The bike got a massive bash on the way back last time and bent the rack stays quite a way... I'm sure it would've fucked the frame/rear wheel if the rack hadn't been there...
@maynardeames Eventually only the Sturmey Archer will be silver... #everythingblack

According to mates with the rack: makes the bike much more stable when folded/wheeling, protects mudguard, very occasionally used for luggage... If it's going to be a utility bike, the weight penalty is probably worth it, but if you're going for the Ti whippet build, then not.

PS I've got a really squeaky suspension block, I can fix the problem easily by rotating the block but if I twist it around too far the latch that locks the frame won't lock... Any ideas?

Take the block off the shaft(?) and grease it. Fixed mine.

Oooh matron!

Yep, on the first day out on my Brompton was welcomed to the club by a mate on his (possibly) titanium frame and suggested the rack on the basis that it makes the bike more stable when folded and much easier to wheel around.
I'm still considering it, it's not much, just £85 I think?

That feels so much better... 🍆💦

If one had a Brompton (2x hub) and one wanted to have a higher gear ratio is it just as simple as swapping out the chainring for a bigger one (and chain I guess)
*asking for a friend
I've recommended he gets some faster rolling tyres (maybe the Kojaks), but is it really worth it on a Brompton?
-
• #4266
New chain too. Kojaks are nice but summer only I think, and prepare to change a tube.
-
• #4267
whats he go now? 2 links added per 4 teeth, so adding two teeth works, but then chain is too long.
Kojaks are amazing, just add some tubeless sealant.

What chainring does he have? I did it the other way, found the stock gearing to high for me, so swapped out the chainring for a smaller one and shortened the chain. It was pretty straight forward, especially by Brompton standards.

60T here! couldnt get over constantly topping out the 54t, dont get me wrong, my commute is only like 50ft climbing if that and it doesnt go up too many hills!
-
• #4270
Most of my Brompton riding is in Cambridge, so pancake flat, but I still found the 54t chainring too much on a two speed. Must be getting old...

I did some math and I think I need a 48 (max 50) with 12 and 16 @maynardeames

Rode fixed the other week, it kinda sucked

How did you do your math? super short chainstays and little wheels remember!
So cute...
