Honestly, I think 46/30 work well for you especially with a load.
Having said that it's probably cheaper to go for wolftooth/wheel manufacturing drop out extender and run a 11-42t with a 40t chainring.
Cheers Ed, my preference would be the biggest cassette and running a single chainring. I thought a road link allows a max rear cog of 40T (not 42T) which I suspect may not be enough.
Need to sit down with a spreadsheet showing gear inches Vs cost for all options, romantic I know.
