England certainly lack a left-footed midfielder that can drill or float passes upon anywhere on the pitch. And I get it, he won a World Cup. He just lacks fight. I'm more of a Maradona guy.
As for the phenomenon of opposition fans applauding delightful passes, I've seen it several times with Irish Messi Andy Reid.

I feel so blessed that I've never had to support a team featuring Mesut Ozil. Does he never not look mildly bewildered?
A lot of Russians will be as happy to see Germany's pathetic exit as anything their own team can accomplish.
