Depending on the model this is a free warranty fix. Search the thread back a few pages, I had mine repaired

damn, my macbook is 3.5 years old thus too old for the warranty replacement :(

You're in luck! Free replacement period has been extended to 4 years from the model discontinue date - so you should be okay. Call Apple or do a live chat and book an appt at your local genius bar.
