  • That's someting new ! doooo !

  • Commercial makers have a few options when it comes to recumbents; short, mid and long wheel base machines with 3 and 4 wheelers thrown in to make things interesting. All of the above have been around since at least the 30s or 40s.
An example of a short wheelbase recumbent would be the Presto, which was sued out of existence due to safety concerns, I believe...

  • Protest brake?

  • Seems unlikely that someone would go to the effort of installing a disc brake with internal routing etc for that. I think it's just someone trying to be clever and demonstrate how they can make fancy bikes.

  • Interesting dropouts

    @jdmitch involved in this?

  • Not new, seen this type of dropouts (swappable/adjustable) around for quite some time, remember a particular GIOS which I really wanted but didn't have the space.

  • Compact pro. I had one but never built it :(

I'm sure Heldring has seen sliding dropouts and is just taking the piss out of JDMitch's death GT

  • Sorry yeah as Phil pointed out I'm just being a dick :) Never seen those kind of dropouts on a Fort before

  • Imagine the flexiness and brake judder

  • Why would this have more judder?

  • I think the torsional flex in the steerer probably has knock-on effects on the headset, allows more movement in the cable/housing, results in poorer wheel tracking, etc. You want everything stiff with a minimal length of cable, right?

Just my guess though, maybe it's fine

  • I had a similar setup for a while, wasn’t too bad :)

  • Actually just saw that the quill is mega long!! How did I miss that?!

  • That's about half the overall height of @frankenbike's example...

  • Ah you saw my original post before I stealth edited it, thought I was quick enough

  • Yeah, your bike looked a lot more reasonable! Really if he just removed the ultra-long quill extender thing it'd be a fairly normal moderately-nice bike. Guy must be a giant considering it's already a pretty tall headtube.

  • Found a new #baaw spot. Did a #baaw.

  • Did this frame used to belong to anyone on here? It had "do a mad skid" and "see you next tuesday" etc. written on it in Sharpie (since removed with meths).

  • Lil ratty townie-esque set up for hopping around town.

  • Nice cruise'y set-up. What bars? Promenades?

  • Frankenbike? Anti? Don't know, but I have many questions

  • Anyone want to suggest some frame mods for this? Literally anything considered as long as it's cheap and doable by a complete novice (no replacing headtube etc. for now)

(Ignore my awful cabling, I'm just making do until I weld these bits on)

At the moment I am thinking:

    1. ditching the band-on shifter boss and welding a downtube boss on to the top tube
    2. disc brake tabs (plus a strut for reinforcement) on the rear
    3. cable tie guides down both seat stays for full length outers.

Just want to learn a bit of welding and this frame is my test bed. Any other suggestions? Some parts for a dynamo might be fun but not sure what's needed for that?

  • More bottle cage eyelets and all the mounts for front and rear panniers.

  • I'm a bit wary of drilling for bottle cage eyes for now as I've heard you need to get the holes very straight.

Could definitely do some of these lads though:

Maybe 2 or 3 with bottle cage spacing on each seatstay so that I can fit anything cages?

    Roughly like this:

  • Why aren't you just using the cable guides that're on there?
