  • Fair enough, I assumed it would function like PDK

  • More than three major components so full engine, that is block, heads, pistons etc, I did list Turbochargers as well but warranty would not pay so it wasn't until after a road test and a litre of oil was burn't off in eight miles we went back with the extra evidence and they agreed, shame it was an extra nine hours work then with it all back in place :)

  • Nearly...

  • As far as I know they're more like motorbike gearboxes. Clutchless fine on the way up if you back off the gas or fit a quickshifter. Clutch on the way down unless you can unload the box. They fit auto throttle blippers to bikes these days for that.

  • Downshifting it not quite so simple as just using a throttle blip on a sequential if the box is manually actuated, it's actually quite hard to unload the box under braking (or any time the throttle is shut)

I was going to write a long winded gearbox science explanation but geartronics have done a better job here:

  • Needs Sweet paintjob.

  • Good article that. They've definitely made them work on bikes, they're very much the accessory du jour on current generation superbikes. It's probably easier to get them to work as the rear wheel unloads far more on the brakes than cars do and I guess it takes a bunch less energy /time to unload the drive train with a blip.

Do they use the clutch downshifting in sequential boxes in rally cars? In motocross, you just crunch down the box as it's all loose and never that heavily loaded anyway.

  • Yeah you have to clutch in as normal with a sequential on the way down in lieu of some sort of GCU / blipper / paddle shift system.

i wonder what the key differences are between a bike cluster and an automotive one are to make it different.

  • Anyone heading to the Le Mans Classic this year?

Will be heading down in the BM with father/bro and a few others.

    Always a really good weekend.

  • working from home just got spendy

  • Those are supercool. Definitely look spendy....

  • Unicorn.

  • Left rear spring broken?

  • Read about that yesterday. Epic. I'd like to see the Resto process. Would make a good series.

  • Here's a data point presented without comment: the 996 cabriolet is torsionally stiffer than the Lotus Elise.

  • Never made it to Classic Lemans but have only heard good things.

I'm heading over to Germany in August to see the Oldtimer GP at the Nurburgring for the first time.

  • Hmm....just found a pair of 2" headers for my car on Craigs. New in box and half retail price. I have 1.75" fitted at the moment which is on the small side for my engine, probably robbing a good 40+hp.

My inner Dammit is screaming at me to buy them and make it right....and then I remember what a total and complete cunt they are to remove and install. And do I really need another 40hp at 6k in my car anyway? Hmm.

  • Do it

  • I don't even know what they are

  • Def do it

  • And do I really need another 40hp at 6k in my car anyway?

Of course you do. You'll forget the hassle of fitting them, you'll get to enjoy the power and noise for the rest of the time you keep the car.

  • Also, I'm fitting 1.75" to my weeny 3.7...

  • Just collected all the pictures together of the recent bodywork for anyone who might be interested: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8131181@N05/sets/72157693585797854

  • I still have the imprint in my forehead from balancing the fuckers on it last time I put them back in...that's not easy to forget. :)

If they're still there at the weekend, maybe I'll pick them up. Frankly, the car could do with about 200hp less than it already has. Nothing succeeds like excess though, eh.

  • Those excite me because reasons. You need to post more updates.
