    What's best to get to tool around on before putting in for the proper test - the 125, or will something tiny be fine?

  • I rented a 125 for a week. I found this to be plenty of time to get used to shifting and general control. Then I had a 3 day Direct Access Scheme training which included both aspects of the test (mod1, mod2).

    Don't forget your theory test :)

  • I'd go PhilDAS route.

    I bought a 125cc, road for quite a while, then did my DA. While there's a good argument for this, on balance I don't think it's any better or cheaper than going straight into the DA.

    Iirc renting for a week didn't cost @PhilDAS much and imo seemed like an excellent balance.

    Bear in mind this time of year space on courses will be tight.
