  • For you, fiddy dorrah.

  • just saw that cousins uk have omega seamaster parts. the one that is discontinued. so since i dont have the funds to buy one now i decided to take it slow and buy parts until i have the complete watch. for the watchmakers here (or people that have more knowledge than me), do cousins uk have all the parts i need for this watch? thought i start with dial and hands, the movement, then case and finally the bracelet. what do you think?

  • Related to the recent homage conversation, anyone seen this guy’s videos? Seems kinda annoying. I’m yet to find any blog, instagram, youtube etc on watches that isn’t, though.

  • I quite enjoy his videos. Once you get passed his face.

He has some interesting ideas on homages.

  • Please just don't, save up for a complete original one instead of building a complete Frankenstein with hands and dial that don't belong together 🤡

  • Will it be any cheaper in the end? Doing it for the joy of a ‘custom’ watch you built yourself?

Bear in mind the resale value probably won’t match your receipts for parts.

  • these are all original omega parts. the thing is omega is no longer producing these watch but the parts do exist still. a 60's model is out of reach. omega does service these watches as all parts are omega. its not a Frankenstein watch

  • mostly doing it as an alternative to saving up for it :)

  • I have noticed that some Omega parts are "AD only" at cousins. Well worth checking if you can get the full set in advance. I think it may that not be possible.

  • So long as you do it for the love and have no intention of resale, it’s just another project. Run with it. Probably you’ll find some small part is so crazy expensive/easily damaged that you wish you hadn’t started.

    Do it.

  • Probably to stop people pulling a @panic

  • They have everything except the Cal 565 for the date model, or the Cal 552 for non date. The latter is possibly more desirable and easier to work on.

    I built mine myself.

  • excellent. thats what i was looking for. i guess it is somewhat easy to find a movement. did it cost much more that finding one to buy? any photos??

  • Been wearing the auto for the last week or so, adjusting the time to try fix the +/- seconds. Just popped on the chrono rat. Might wear it this week.

  • How would this be an alternative to saving up for a complete watch? It’s not like you can stick a set of hands and a dial to your wrist whilst you’re saving up for the case and movement
    #dontgettit

  • its an alternative because i will be fully commited if i've already spent some on it. it will be like a deposit :)

  • I’d still fear the risk of buying something in the wrong order, ie not soon enough, and it going out of stock forever or else up in price.

  • if you're the kind of person who blows his watch budget before getting to target then I would suggest either buying cheaper watches as you go and then sell the lot to fund the Omega, or get your credit card out...

Can you tell that I think it's a terrible idea to build your deposit up in watch parts which, on their own bring almost no benefit to you, are less liquid than complete watches and don't appreciate in value and introduce a risk that parts you need aren't available in the future, in order to build a parts-watch which has limited resale value?

    #dontdoitkids #justsayno

  • Anyway, what happened to the Zenith 1-watch collection? it's perfect, no?

  • :) i said it will be my only watch for a while. it is and it will be but i will add a watch with a bracelet next year.

  • Can you even buy all the parts of a watch individually?
I would be surprised if you can.

  • SM300s are slightly different to other watches though. They're so classic, and so rare, that the appetite is enormous. i've never seen a frankenstein watch go for £4k but the Watchco SM300s do it regularly.

  • This 1967 one is for sale for £7.5k. Definitely worth twice the price of a frankenwatch.

  • ^^ beautiful but out of my league..

a watchco one here for 3200 usd. can somebody buy it and i will pay you in monthly installments?? :)
