  • Steeplechase sounds fun, 400m less so!

Would be lovely to be out in any hills this weekend.

...Until it all goes horribly wrong! I actually hit the wall for the first time in a race yesterday, about 23k into the North Downs Run 30k. Combination of severe lack of mileage (longest run 12 miles since the marathon) and the heat, as I'm sure dehydration played its part. Felt very dizzy and immediately slowed down, hobbled to the next water station, stopped and downed 4 cups of squash, sort of got going again but ran/walked all the way to the end. Heard a cheery "All right?" with 5k to go, MsPub merrily overtaking me on her way to winning the women's race for the 4th year in a row, in a course pb time, taking 4 minutes out of me!

Ugh! Thankfully this race is well known for its plentiful supply of free cake and tea at the end, which I devoured in huge quantity before repairing to the nearest bar to see England score the odd goal. Oh somehow I was going well enough before I blew up to hold on to 3rd V45 in the British Masters' champs, and with two speedier club mates in front of me we won the team competition. Ho hum!
