love that tiny ti bike

Nice but shouldn't you attach some bags?

I've got a lotta love for excited Salsa stems

Tried it. Surprisingly shit at shifting. FD is long and doesn't like the jump.
Also, what's the GPS unit you're using? I like the look of it. Are those three buttons?

This is perfect.

This is perfect.
Not quite. Front guard is way too short and no flaps?! C'mon. Other than it's very good indeed.

The fenders are way too tight, couldn't fit the spark of a Trump idea in there without a snag.
-
• #19037
Huh, then maybe 46/30 might be better, the jump is exactly the same as a 50/34 anyway.
The GPS is a Wahoo Elment Bolt! very capable, plus I charge it with a battery pack at the refuges (you should've seen all the other walkers overloading the only power plug in the refuges for their phones and gps!).

Shame about the 1x, otherwise would be a terrific modern groupset on old frame.

Sorry. I meant the idea of this is perfect. Looks like a fast but comfy all weather, all day light tourer. Which is what I want atm.
However, Guards are too tight and no flappy. Also cranks and chainring can >>>>.

i know, you're right, small chainring is not as aesthetically pleasing, but it's the best for me. this is not my race bike.
Josh got it right, all weather, all day, all country, all everything, but descends, i don't have to push at 40kmh and this gearing (34x12-28) gives me the comfort of 11-36 kmh at cadence of 90 rpm on 30mm tyres, no big/reasonable jumps between gears, just efficiency to get me where ever i want. also designed to take a big saddle bag for intercity overnights 150k+, only way i would swap is a 40/28 road crankset option, ultra compact
cheers to everyone on that 1x bullshit do/don't, for me this works perfect -

Thanks dude, have a great trip!

• #19043
Yeah that's a real beauty. I've never ridden a ti bike before, seems like a great choice if you're going to have just one bike.

• #19044
If I could only have one bike:

Looks like a pretty big cassette, don’t see the problem.
-
• #19046
Looks like 11-36 + 50/34 to me, I'd want a little bit lower for touring.

It all depends on what kind of touring they're doing (elevation, amount of gear, etc) and how fit they are, so there is no way for us to tell (whether this is the 'right' gearing).
Like you said, you can only say what you'd prefer. If you're correct, 34x36 low gear seems fine for me personally for most situations.
-
• #19049
Aye, but if you just have one general-purpose touring bike that you go all over the place with I personally would want something lower. ETap is probably a bit of a hindrance there, I'm guessing there's no triple or 11-40 option so seems like your only choice is subcompact rings?
Fine for a specific niche though

I actually like that a lots, 34t is a little on the small size as this may increase wear on the chain/cassette, as the smaller the sprocket/the more wear it get.
