  • Last car rental I had I was given a Dacia Duster and it was surprisingly ok; the only niggles were the slightly agricultural-feeling clutch, and the brake bite point was weirdly late. I may well be a shite driver, mind.

  • Haha. I had an old porsche once that you had to get used to second gear on, it was renowned for being uncooperative, fab car though. The best gearbox description was from Jeremy Clarkson who described a Renault Clio’s as like a branch in a bucket of coal. I’ve had that car and he was bang on!

  • As much as I loath clarkson, that’s pretty great. I’m currently in LA visiting family - been driving their 72 alpha spider a bit. I first drove the car when I was 18 and had just passed my (U.K.) test - it’s gearbox is a vague, mercurial thing, with barely any synchromesh to speak of.
